Frequently Asked Questions
What Is CBD?
CBD is an acronym for cannabidiol (can-a-bid-ee-awl), a prominent naturally occurring phytocannabinoid found in hemp. Depending on the specific hemp cultivar, CBD can comprise the majority of a plant’s phytocannabinoid content. However, it is just one of dozens of different cannabinoids and phytochemicals found in hemp. Of these compounds, however, CBD is usually present in the highest concentration. It is, therefore, one of the most recognized – and popular. CBD is a non-intoxicating component of hemp that possesses a wide range of beneficial properties. It does not cause a high, unlike THC. Our bodies are made up of an endocannabinoid system (ECS) that uses naturally-occurring endocannabinoids to maintain health and homeostasis. As a phytocannabinoid, CBD works to interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system and promote a sense of balance and wellness.
What is the Endocannabanoid System?
(Brace yourself, this is a little science-y)
Every single person has an endocannabinoid system (ECS), whether they’ve consumed hemp products before in their lives or not. The ECS consists of naturally-occurring endocannabinoids (such as anandamide) and their corresponding receptors (such as CB-1 and CB-2 receptors). The ECS is believed to interact with dozens of different internal processes in the body. Endocannabinoids interact with various receptors, and this molecular interaction communicates messages to the body’s central nervous system. We are still far from a complete understanding of the human ECS, but it is an incredibly exciting topic of interest.
CBD is a phytocannabinoid (‘phyto’ meaning plant-based) from hemp that shares a similar molecular structure as the body’s natural endocannabinoids. As such, it interacts with ECS receptors to influence a range of wellness benefits.
What is the best method to use CBD?
Short answer…..it depends. It’s really about personal preference.
The Noir Leaf CBD Oils, and CBD Gummies are made for oral consumption. CBD oils are to be applied under the tongue, and held for 60-90 seconds before being swallowed. This allows the CBD to be absorbed into the bloodstream faster than other methods.
If you don’t like the flavor of the oil options (we offer CBD oils in Mint flavors), Gummies are a great alternative. Gummies offer a precise dose of CBD, travel well and taste great.
The Noir Leaf topical lotions, rubs, and gels are used for relief to a specific part of the body. The CBD is absorbed through cannabinoid receptors in your skin.

What's the difference between hemp and marijuana?
Scientifically, industrial hemp and marijuana are the same plant, with a genus and species name of Cannabis sativa. They have a unique genetic profile, however. Typically, industrial hemp is very fibrous with long strong stalks and few flowering buds. Marijuana plants are typically smaller, bushier, and full of flowering buds. However, newer industrial hemp varieties in the USA are being bred to have more flowers and higher yields of cannabinoids.
Most of the time, marijuana has a high amount of THC and a very low amount of CBD. Hemp, on the other hand, naturally has higher amounts of CBD (in most instances) and only trace amounts of THC. Fortunately, the cannabinoid profile of hemp is ideal for people looking for benefits from cannabis without the ‘high.’
Historically, hemp has been used to make food products, fiber, rope, paper, bricks, oil, natural plastic, and so much more. In the US, marijuana is usually used both recreationally and medicinally. The term “cannabis oil” can refer to either a marijuana or hemp-derived oil, since marijuana and hemp are two different forms of cannabis. All of The Noir Leaf CBD oils are derived from hemp.
